You have been at the receiving end of harsh words more often than you would like. Someone says something cutting and that offends you. It does not matter if the words are said in anger, and they really don’t mean them, or if they are said with the full intention of meaning what they say. Once those words are spoken, they cannot be retrieved. Later, they may apologize, but the damage has already been done.
If that is not bad enough, you sometimes do the exact thing you despise in others. You say something that is destructive to someone else. You do not like it when you say such things. A good rule to follow is written by an unknown person, which says: “Whatever you dislike in another person, be sure to correct in yourself.” That is a great principle to put into your life.
The Holy Bible commands believers to be people who encourage one another. The way you are to encourage people in your life is explained as follows: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16; NKJV). This tells you to spend a great deal of time in the Scriptures. You are to let them “dwell in you richly.” In other words, the word of Christ is to actually consume you. What you say, what you do, and what you think are all to be saturated by Christ’s word.
Those sharp words that come from your mouth can actually be eradicated. How? By focusing on Christ’s words in the Scriptures. The more you think about the Word of God, the more your mind will be renewed by it.
Eliminate those sharp, cutting word from your speech. In short, meditate on the Scriptures! Positive words will follow!
