You are truly blessed if you have a great home. As I look backward, I can say that my home life was a great time of my life. If I got stuck in my math, my Dad came to my rescue. In Junior High School (what is now Middle School) the school tried a new approach to math. Even the teacher said she was unfamiliar with it. She said it would be a learning experience for all of us. My Dad bought a copy of the book and explained it to me when I got stuck. My Mother was always there when I needed a listening ear. Both made fun and laughter a part of my home life.
The home is the most important place in all the world in which to influence future generations. With a good home, the future generations look bright. Cause the home to degrade, and so goes the society. “If you bungle raising your children, I don’t think whatever else you do well matters very much” (Jacquelyn Kennedy). No more true words have ever been spoken. The home life you have determines in so many ways the future of your children.
The Scriptures talk of children, and the importance of bringing up your children in a Godly manner. “When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also” (1 Timothy 1:5; NKJV). That home was centered on faith. Faith in Christ. Look at that family tree of strong faith—from grandmother to mother to child. That is what a great home looks like.
I hear you. I did not come from a family home that strongly supported the Scriptures. Take courage. Tighten your belt and make it a point that you will not repeat your past home history. Be determined that a strong home of faith will start with you. Do you today and every future day!
