You like to think that what you are doing is making a difference in your world. You do not want to be busy, just passing away time. You do not want to spin your wheels and get nowhere.
To be effective with your time it takes effort to ensure you are doing something that counts. It is what you do. Not when you do it, that counts. Mickey Mantle, at age twenty, hit twenty-three home runs his first full year in the major leagues. Golda Meir was seventy-one when she became Prime Minister of Israel. Mozart was just seven when his first composition was published. George Bernard Shaw was ninety-four when one of his plays was first produced. And Benjamin Franklin was a newspaper columnist at sixteen and a framer of the United States Constitution when he was eighty-one. It is plain to see, that it is much more important to focus your attention on what is accomplished, not when it was accomplished.
The Bible teaches you that it is important for you to be “useful” to Christ for His service, regardless of your age. “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the later, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” (2 Timothy 2:21; NKJV). Thus, you are “useful for the Master,” as you are “prepared for every good work.” The focus is on preparing yourself to do good works for Christ. It is, as you are “prepared,” that you are “useful.”
Do not focus your attention on your age. No matter how old or young you may be, just know that Christ is preparing you for the work He has for you to do. Just go forth and do the work Christ leads you to do. Remember, it is what you do, not when you do it, that counts!
