Getting What You Want

There are times in your life when you would want to find that magic lamp.  You know the one, where you rub the lamp and out comes a genie.  The genie tells you that you have three wishes.  To your heart’s desire you make that all important first wish.

That sounds good, but you know that here is no such thing as a magic lamp with a genie inside.  So, you look for other ways to get what you want.  There just seems like an endless circle of your wants in life and, then, what you actually get in life.

Maybe, just maybe, those things that you feel you just absolutely must have, could be not that important at all.  After careful examination, those things you want need to be changed.  “If you can’t get what you want, want what you can get!” (Lebanese proverb).  Now, that is a practical way of getting the things that really matter in your life.

The Word of God gives careful guidance to you receiving what you want in life.  It is clear and simple. “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.  Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the Lord.  Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:3-5; NKJV).  Tucked away in the middle of those verses is the command to “delight yourself in the Lord.”  As you find your total desires in this life to agree with the Bible, notice that Christ gives you whatever your desires may be.  This happens as you trust in Christ and live your life by the Word of God.

Yes, you can actually get what you want during your earthly pilgrimage.  It boils down to putting all your energy into doing what pleases Christ.  Do that today and every day!
