Today we live in a world full of unrest. There is unrest from the politicians to the economy to civil disorder to job security. This unrest brings you to a place in your life where you are just about unsure of anything. As a Christian, yes you have hope for the life hereafter, but you are unsure of what life has to offer you on a day-to-day basis. Tension builds as the unrest builds and ulcers take the place of a tranquil life.
All this leaves you with mixed emotions, and may I add, extreme mixed emotions. I came across a little quote that express these feelings well: “One youngster was explaining to another boy what ‘mixed emotions’ meant. ‘It’s like watching the school burn down when your new catcher’s mitt is in your desk’” (Bits & Pieces). Ha! Ha! On a normal day you would chuckle out loud in reading this, but not so today. You may find it humorous but your “mixed emotions” about life in general has stolen your joy. In fact, if the truth were known, you are down right afraid of what each day might bring.
One emotion that you and most of the world is under attack on is the emotion of fear. A sense of fear, or at the mildest extremely restlessness, seems to grip you and the world you live in. The Lord God does not want you to live your life in fear. David who witnessed much fear in his life has this to say about it in Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread?” Two questions are asked for emphasis—what person shall I fear or loathe to see? His answer—no one. Why? Because the God who made the whole universe, earth, every person on it, and who custom made you the way He wanted you, will take care you and will defend you against all harm. Stop! Let that last sentence sink in—re-read that last sentence. God is in control and He will take you of you every moment of every day; that includes today and tomorrow and the next day.
To eradicate “mixed emotion” in your life, fear no one except the Lord God, because He controls every minutia of detail in your life right now and forever. Live totally for God not people!
