Whatever you love to do reflects a lot about you as a person. If you love fishing, then you love to be out near water. The pull on your fishing line makes your heart joyous. If you love hunting, then you love being in the forests. As you wait for the game you are hunting, the mere presence of being in nature is a thrill to you. If your love is to be an artist, then you love seeing the picture come to life on that easel, one stroke after another.
What you love to do says a lot about you, as a person. Johann von Goethe nails it, when he said, “we are shaped and fashioned by what we love.” Wow! That speaks volumes! When you see what you are that another person loves, it makes a huge statement about the kind of you are. A lot can be said about you, just based on what you love to do.
When it comes to your spiritual life, the same is true. Your maturity in Christ, your zest in serving Him, your love for the Scriptures, and so many other Christian attributes, all revolve around your love for Christ. Christ addressed this, by saying: “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:10, NKJV). Christ knew all too well about what obedience was all about. He kept every single one of His Father’s commandments. The result was He abided in His Father’s love. Likewise, you are to obey all of Christ’s commandments to stay in His love.
A lot about your Christian walk can be told by the amount of love you have for Christ. Christ’s love in your life is evident to everyone around you. And you lack of love for Christ is evident to those around you also.
So, your love reveals your character. Let Christ’s love shine through you. Your character depends upon it!
