It is that time of year again—football mania. Men and women alike get just plain excited about watching their favorite football team play. No doubt about it, football gets most people excited that do not get that excited about many other areas of life. It is good to get excited, and to top it off it is down right invigorating. May their tribe increase. There is nothing wrong with that, but I find it ironic that they get excited about few other things in their life. I find that a shame.
Dwight Morrow once wrote to his son, “The world is divided into people who do things and people who get the credit. Try if you can to belong to the first class. There’s far less competition.” One of the reasons some people seem to get so much done is because they get excited about something and usually really enjoy doing it. Everybody truly loves it when they are recognized for accomplished tasks. Few are those who excel in what they do, simply because they drudgingly perform the task. Zeal is what so many people are missing.
Remember the zeal you had when you first accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You were excited and couldn’t wait to do something—anything. Before long the routine set in, and you were satisfied with just being present and going through the motions. Zeal was long forgotten.
The church at Corinth loves the apostle Paul. They realized what an important part he played in their salvation and growth in the Christian life. They were appreciative. They had zeal. “As he reported to us your longing, your mourning, and your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced even more” (2 Cor. 7:7). The Corinthians rejoiced in their zeal they had for Paul, and Paul in returned rejoiced in their zeal they had for God’s messenger.
To return to the zeal you once had for the Lord Jesus can only happen by getting back the joy of your salvation. How do you do that? By making it a habit to spend quality time in God’s Word, prayer, and making a conscious effort to get excited about God’s kingdom work on earth. Let’s return to Godly zeal in your life!!! Start now!!
