From the Bottom to the Top

We don’t have to live our lives for very long, until those joyous days turn into times of low tide.  We may be on that mountaintop of joy for several days, or maybe, even several weeks.  At a time when we least expect it, the bottom falls out from underneath our life.

What brings that shadow of despair into our lives?  There could be many, but there is one that seems to be the most prominent.  “If Satan’s arsenal of weapons, were restricted to a single one, it would be discouragement” (C. S. Lewis).  Discouragement is Satan’s dragon that showers us with his fire and reduces us to a small pile of dust.  We can be on the mountaintop of spiritual success in our lives, then discouragement hits us between the eyes.  The result is that we succumb to it and fall to the bottom.

The way to circumvent such a drastic situation in our life, is found in the Word of God.  “Cast your burdens on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.  He shall never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22; NKJV).  The answer to staying on the mountaintop, or at least falling a short time, is for us to pray to Christ.  Prayer is what we need, when trials come into our lives.  That verse says we are to pray, and when we pray, Christ will lift you up.  As that discouragement hits, you remain unmoved, by prayer.

If we are on the mountaintop, beware!  Satan is prowling around, just waiting for that prime opportunity to make you fall.  Believe me.  Satan is a student of everything you do.  He knows you inside and out.  He knows your weaknesses, even better than you know yourself.  At just the right time, Satan will strike.

Pray that you will not fall, when tempted.  And if you have fallen, pray for Christ to life you up. Do so today!
