Everywhere you turn, the world is shouting that contentment is found in what you own. The more material things, that you own, then the better your life will be. The more toys a person has, they say, dictates the amount of satisfaction you will have on earth.
That philosophy may sound good, but it just does not ring true in real life. Following that train of thought, you would think that the people with the most possessions are the happiest people. All you have to do is to look at any movie or tv star. Materially, they have anything and everything their heart desires. Yet, when interviewed, they share how miserable their life really is.
An unknown author states this principle well: “When we look at what we want and then compare it with what we have, we will be unhappy. When we think of what we deserve, rather than what we have, we will thank God.” God is gracious to give you many, many blessings. Letting those words be lived in your life, leaves you with a contented life.
Christ taught that same message. He is talking about a rich fool. It is interesting that Christ makes the distinction between someone who is not a fool, someone who is a fool, and a rich fool. Letting you know that just because you are rich does not nullify you from being a fool. “And He said to them, take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses” (Luke 12:15, NKJV). Contentment in life does not come from the number of things you own.
Worldly thinking tells you that the more goods you have, then the more you enjoy life. Christ teaches that enjoying life on earth is not found through riches. Seek Christ first in your life! Do so today and every day!
