You may not think about it much, but one day you will die. The thought of dying may scare you. You know what life is like here on earth. What death looks like can be scary. One reason is that life, as you know it, down here on earth ceases. With that cessation of life, the process of dying and what lies ahead is unknown.
If you are a believer, the hope of eternity calls you home. You are to look forward to leaving this earth and finding your eternal home in heaven. Tertullian lived centuries ago, but his words are just as relevant to believers today: “Death is the golden chariot that ushers us into the kingdom of God.” You should look forward to death. It is nothing more than the vehicle that bridges the gap between earthly life and heavenly life.
Jesus ministered to Martha, who recently witnessed the death of her brother, Lazarus. Jesus, in ministering to her, says, “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall life’” (John 11:25, NKJV). Christ tells you that as you leave this earthly life, you gain a heavenly life. And Scripture teaches that your heavenly life will be utopia.
Do not be afraid of death. Often, your knees knock, because you are faced with some unknown. Facing things that you do not understand can be daunting. At times like this you need to claim what the Bible teaches and ask Christ to fill you with His peace.
There is only one way to heaven and that is through Christ. If you do not have a personal relationship with Christ, settle that with Him right now.
To get to heaven requires you to leave this life and enter into a heavenly life. There is life through death!
