Marital Bliss

When you were a young person, you dated to have fun with the opposite sex.  Dating is fun and spending time with that other person yields great memories to be remembered.  Along with having fun with that person, down deep inside was the desire to one day get married.  For many, getting married carried with it the dream of living happily ever after the marriage ceremony.

Marriage is the most intimate of all the human relationships on this earth.  That Cinderella dream is not just a dream, but can be a reality.  Yes, every day you are married will not be a pie in the sky, total fulfillment.  It will have some ups and downs, but marriage can be a foretaste of heaven on earth.  Although not perfect bliss, married life can be a whole lot more joy than sadness.  In Burlington, Vermont, a tombstone has the epitaph indicating that beneath it lies the remains of a woman who was married to her husband for fifty years and hoped for a better life.  Ha!  Ha!  Some marriages may be that way, but a marriage grounded in Christ will not have such an ending.

Look at the very first marriage in the Word of God.  God wants man and woman to live a life together helping each other.  You and your mate are to complement one another, so you are both better people together, than you are apart.  “And the Lord said, ‘It is not good for man to be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him’ and they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed’ (Genesis 2:18, 25, NKJV).  God created the marriage to bring out the best in both people.

Marital bliss is not some childhood dream.  It can be attainable here on earth.  The only way that can happen is to put Christ first in your life and marriage.  Do so today!
