Know What You Know

You spend a lot of time going to school to learn general knowledge.  Some of you may even have gone onto higher learning to know specific knowledge that prepares you for a profession.  You learn those things to make you a better person individually, socially, and professionally.

What is true of your professional life, also applies to your spiritual life.  You attend church to worship the Lord Christ and to learn biblical truth to help you live your day-to-day Christian life better.  One day a friend who was filled with doubt and spiritual perplexity asked the Scottish preacher McLeod Campbell. “Pastor, you always seem to have peace of soul.  Tell me, how can you feel that you’ve got such a tight hold on God?”  With a smile Campbell explained, “I don’t always feel I have a hold on Him, but praise the Lord, I always know He has hold of me.”  What an amazing feeling.  Knowing that the Lord has hold of your life, and is directing your path with a heavenly design, give great assurance and inner peace.

The apostle, Paul, had a similar feeling. He wanted, more than anything else the world could offer him, to get to know Christ more fully.  His words ring true: “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Philippians 3:10, NKJV).  You would think the road to knowing Christ more fully is one of leisure.  Not so.  It is through sharing the sufferings of Christ.  “Being conformed to His death” means dying to your own wants and desires and living to glorify Christ in all you do.

To know what you know about the Christian life is a life that brings glory to the Lord Christ.  Start today to dying to your own wants and desires and living for Christ!
