Avoiding Embarrassment

There are certain things that other people do that will embarrass you.  You have no control over those situations.  There are, also, some things that you do or say that embarrass you.   How you respond to those things says a lot about your character.

Sometimes when you embarrass yourself, it is done by what you say about other people.  When you say negative things about others, it often says more about your lack of integrity than about their lack of personal characteristics.  In talking about others, Cicero has some wise words when he said, “It is the peculiar quality of a fool to perceive the faults of others and to forget his own.”  Too often you nit-pick the faults of others, while refusing to look inward at your own shortcomings.

How do you avoid those embarrassing situations?  In the longest chapter of the Holy Bible, it gives some wise counsel in those regards: “Your word I have written in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11, NKJV).  As you meditate on the word of God, it keeps you from sin.  It, also, guides your speech so that it is pleasant and not negative in relation to your talking about others.

So how do you avoid embarrassment?  By memorizing some Scripture.  As you meditate on Scripture, it fills your mind, and your speech, with the right words.  Learning to fill your mind with positive, biblical words, will keep those embarrassing moments to a minimum.

Start today with filling your mind with verses.  That habit will aid you in living a more fruitful life.  To control the tongue, you must control your mind first.  As you use positive words in talking to others, occasionally, take an honest look at your faults.  Start today!
