If you are like me, you say things that you have to ask for forgiveness for saying. I am a jovial type of guy, who likes to have a good time. Making people smile and laugh is one of my spiritual gifts, at least in my eyes. Ha! My thoughts are that the world has enough doomsday people going around and spreading negativity everywhere they go. I try to balance life out and promote glad tiding of good cheer. The Lord knows those who have to deal with the public daily could use some enlightenment. Many who cross their paths fume with words that are cutting.
Since I talk sometimes before thinking, I have to occasionally ask for forgiveness. I say something, then immediately think of a better way to say it. Thus, I ask for forgiveness. Synn Johnston must feel the same way that I do on this issue, when he says: “An apology is the super glue of life. It can repair almost anything.” So true. Although I occasionally have to ask for forgiveness, I do not mind apologizing to others. Sadly, too few people practice this character trait.
The Holy Bible is full of affirmations commanding believers to speak encouraging words. This is true of you when you are talking to others, and when you have to offer that apology. Let one such verse, give you the guidance you need: “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one” (Colossians 4:6, NKJV). Put another way, let your words be encouraging to heal the wounds of negative words spoken by others.
Yes, I sometimes have to apologize. I have to eat crow, but I think that is a very small price to pay to uplift the hearts of others. Start today to spread a cheer where you go!
