Whenever you hear that something is free, it spurns your interest. Your ears perk up and you give your full attention; especially when you hear that what is given for free is riches. Is it really true? Are the riches actually absolutely free?
Thinking of spiritual things, there are untold riches that are absolutely free. The “grace” you received from Christ, as you became a Christian, is absolute riches that is absolutely free. You did not deserve it. It costs you nothing. Christ gives it free to all, who will accept it.
Donald Grey Barnhouse was a pastor and theologian of the last century. As he discussed Christ’s grace, he said: “Love that reaches up is adoration. Love that reaches across is affection. Love that reaches down is grace.” Christ’s love for you as a sinner reaches down from heaven to offer forgiveness of your sins. All you have to do is to accept it.
After accepting that grace to become a Christian, your life journey with that new relationship begins. That is a starting point. Scripture tells you exactly what to do in that new relationship, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18, NKJV). The grace you received at salvation is to grow in your life. This happens as you grow in the “knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Spend time in the Scriptures, not just for information, but to allow them to change the way you live your life. The Bible was written to be lived by its followers.
Yes, there is such a thing as free riches. Acquire Christ’s riches and walk in them. There really is no more satisfying way to live your life.
