Advice Worth Following

Everywhere you go, everyone seems to be willing to offer advice.  With that opinion, there is the fact that it stems from an opinion that they have.  One person said it this way, “Opinion is something everybody has.”  That opinion may be good, or it could be bad.  The fact is everyone has one.

Knowing that everyone has an opinion, leads to others sharing their opinions.  This sharing of their opinion is sometimes welcome, and is sometimes not.  Often, it is stated to show you what you need to do.  One unknown author stated it this way, “the best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice we give others.”  Ouch!  That hits us below the belt.  You are quick to give your opinion to others about how they are to act or what they are to say.  That advice can often be applied to your lives as well.

Jesus shares a discourse in the treasury of the temple.  He explains that when He is crucified, many will come to Him as the Messiah.  The result – many believed that Jesus is the Messiah.  To those believing Christians, and to you and me, Jesus gave some advice worth following: “Jesus was therefore saying to those Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, then truly you are disciples of mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’”  Abiding in the words of the Lord, is nothing more or less than living by those words; putting them into your daily practice.

A lot of the advice you get from others is worth following.  Considering the source of that advice, guides you into either accepting that advice or rejecting it.  The absolute best advice you can receive comes from the inerrant Word of God.  Read the Word!  Study the Word!  Obey the Word!  Now, that is advice worth following!
