Are You Called To The Ministry?

I know what you are saying.  I am content serving the Lord by going to church and reading my daily devotions.  The thought of serving the Lord in a ministry capacity is furthest from your mind.

Go back in time with me to your childhood and your adolescent years.  When you went to church did you have the thought that God may want you to do something special for Him?  It could be something you thought of all by yourself.  Or it could be something a pastor, youth worker, or adult leader said to you.  The fact is, that in some time you thought about ministry for your life.  That may have been for just a few minutes, but the thought did arise.

You may have not responded, because you just were not in the place you needed to be in your Christian life.  “But I have never felt any compelling call to give my life for missionary service,” the young man told the conference speaker.  “Are you sure you are within calling distance?” was the disquieting reply.  Maybe you did not hear the Lord call you into some ministry, because you were not listening.

Paul wrote one of his epistles to his friend who Paul mentored.  In it, he says this: “But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry” (2 Timothy 4:5).  Yes, maybe God is telling you to “fulfill your ministry.”

Are you called to the ministry?  Only God knows for sure.  In prayer ask the Lord Jesus to show you if He is calling you to some sort of ministry.  If you do not feel you are quite ready to pray that prayer, then ask the Lord Jesus to make you ready to ask that prayer.  You may just be in the wings of the time of your life, serving the Lord!
