Apathy is a big killer in life. When you are apathetic, you have no interest in something. To go along with apathy, there is often a lack of concern. The attitude is, “Who cares?” It is impossible to get to a place where you will contribute anything to a cause.
A pastor announced his topic for his sermon as “Ignorance and Indifference.” A person in the congregation saw it in the bulletin and leaned to his neighbor and said, “What does that mean?” He answered, “I don’t know and I don’t care.” You chuckle! It has a humorous note to it and would down right funny, if its message was not so true. You may know people who approach the gospel of Christ with the same attitude.
Jesus got through teaching and a large number of people began believing that He was the Messiah. Jesus wanted to keep them from becoming apathetic in their faith. He gives some wise words for us to follow to keep apathy out of our lives. “Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who believed in Him, ‘If you abide in My word, then truly you are disciples of Mine, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free’” (John 8:31-32). Jesus is telling you to keep from becoming apathetic, focus your attention on the Word of God. Keep faithful in reading the Word of God. The Scriptures will keep you on the right road to follow in life.
Apathy does not come into your life all of a sudden. It comes in small packages becoming more and more frequent with time. One problem with apathy is that most people who have it don’t even realize they have it.
Avoid apathy in your life by reading the Scriptures and putting them into practice in your life!
