There is something to be said about living in the moment. After all, you cannot change what you have done in the past, and the future is not within your power to control. So, it just makes sense to make the best of the here and now.
That being said, to do your best in the present, means you have to make plans for what you are going to do in the present. A. W. Tozer once penned these words: “If you ask God to give you a message for the opening year, one that will be made seasonable and real in every exigency of the unknown future, you will be surprised how faithfully, He will fulfill His Word.” God loves answering your prayers. That is why the Lord Jesus said, “you have not because you ask not.” One reason your New Year is not a great year, is just because you have not begun that year with asking God for His blessings on it.
King Solomon is known in the Holy Bible as the wisest man to have ever lived. The Scriptures tell you that his wisdom is far greater that any person to ever live on the earth, past, present, or future. In regards to you using your time wisely, he says, “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—a time to give birth, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2). Knowing that your life has a certain amount of time for these activities to happen, means that some preparation to perform them must occur. Thus, you must plan ahead for the future.
Planning ahead, to make sure certain things happen, is critical to getting things done. So, as 2023 begins this Sunday, take some time to look forward to what you want to accomplish and write a few goals down. Happy 2023!
