A Common Snare

You walk to please your Lord.  Try as you may, there are some obstacles that rear their ugly heads to keep you from honoring God as you would like.  Most of these thorns keep popping up time and again.  They may be occurring because you are unaware of them in your life.

As you live each day, one negative spiritual attribute keeps re-occurring; it is peer pressure.  You do not want to be the only one in the crowd not participating in some activity.  After all, you have a relationship with those people, that you do not want to jeopardize.

The remedy to this requires you to take a stand.  In the Westminster Abbey a monument to Lord Lawrence has inscribed on it his name, his date of birth, and these words: “He feared man so little because he feared God so much.”  You need to fear God much, much more than you fear man.  A lack of fear for God, results in sinful behavior.  There is too much teaching about the love of God and Him being your Daddy or Buddy.  Just know that you will appear before the Lord one day.  He will judge the just and the unjust.

The Scriptures are clear in you having this attitude.  The book of Proverbs states it clearly, as it states: “The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted” (29:25).  To be well-pleasing to God, means you cannot be well-pleasing to men.  Those people you are in contact with in your daily routine should not influence your thoughts and actions.

Yes, being a people pleaser is a common snare that you need to avoid.  How are to avoid being a common sheep following the herd?  As the above verse says, you must “trust in the Lord.”  As a result of completely and fully trusting God, look at the result – you “will be exalted.”  Do so today!
