A Good Meal

There is nothing quite like enjoying a good meal.  After church each Sunday for years, I would go out for lunch with a group of Christian friends.  We would search out good restaurants that served delicious food.  Then we would sit down and enjoy whatever we decided to eat.

Just as physical food is a delight to the body, so spiritual food is a delight to the spirit.  The spiritual food we partake of gives that spiritual part of us the nourishment that it needs.  Without that spiritual food, our spirit cannot function properly.  C. S. Lewis was a famous Christian writer of yesteryear.  He stated, “Spiritual nature, like bodily nature, will be served; deny it food and it will gobble poison.”  Yikes!  That rattles our cage.  If we do not give the spirit within us good spiritual food, then it will consume sinful poison.  Your spirit will get food; you determine the kind of food it gets.

Jesus knew the importance of good, spiritual nutrition.  He was talking to His disciples and said, “Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work’” (John 4:34).  The spiritual food that Jesus was referring to is “to do the will of Him who sent Me.”  Jesus wanted above all else to do the Father’s will for His life.  This took time alone with the Father.  In doing the will of the Father, notice that Jesus accomplished the Father’s work that He had for Jesus.

What does this mean for you and me?  It means that we must feed our spirit the food of the holy Scriptures on a daily basis.  Just as we would not go days without physical food, so we cannot go days without reading the Holy Bible.

We need a good meal; a good spiritual meal every single day.  Let’s go get some spiritual food right now!
