You want to get ahead in your profession, so you do what needs to be done to get promoted. Granted, you do not do anything huge that is wrong. You just break a few of the small rules. After all, doesn’t everyone do that?
“Two opposing political candidates argued on a busy street while a crowd of interested spectators listened. ‘There are hundreds of ways of making money,’ one of the campaigners declared, ‘but only one honest one.’ ‘And what’s that?’ jeered the other candidate. ‘Ah, ha!’ rejoined the first. ‘I thought you wouldn’t know.’ You chuckle as you read that. The point being that the only good work is honest work.
Jesus taught a parable about the different types of soils. The last soil mentioned is the good soil which produced a crop of one hundred times as great. In explaining the parable of the soils to His disciples, He said this about that good soil, “But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance” (Luke 8:15). For you to bear a lot of fruit for the Lord Jesus, requires that you hear “the word in an honest and good heart.” Being honest yields a huge motherload of a crop.
It is time that you proclaim that honestly now is going to be the way you live your life. In the eyes of the world, they say do whatever you need to do to get ahead. In God’s kingdom, He says that being honest is all so important. Notice, in the verse it does not say that you are to be honest just now and then. The verse says that the huge crop goes to you as you “bear fruit with perseverance.” It is the kind of honesty that occurs as you keep going on and on and on. Honestly now, that is the only way to really live!
