Christianity In A Nutshell

When you stop to think about the core of what Christianity means to you, what do you think of?  Is it that you will spend eternity in heaven?  After all, spending forever and ever in eternal bliss is very appealing.  Or, is it that you have the Holy Spirit as your Helper, Comforter, and Counselor while you are on this earth?

Some missionaries were talking about Christianity to Mahatma Gandhi.  “What hymn would you suggest to me which summarizes what you believe?”  They conferred for a while and then said, “When I Survey the Wonderous Cross.”  That answer pretty well sums up what you believe as a Christian.  Everything about your faith culminates at the cross.  That is where Jesus Christ bore your sins and mine, thus giving us eternal life in heaven.

Scripture talks about how you are to live your life on earth by “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).  Jesus is the One where your faith started and was made perfect.  How did He do that?  He did it by suffering and dying on the cross.  After dying and being resurrected, Jesus sits “at the right hand of the throne of God.”  He is at the place of power in heaven.

To be something that is Christianity in a nut shell, means that your whole belief in everything that you believe must be summarized in that.  Without a doubt your Christian faith is all summed up in the cross.  It is at the cross that all of Christianity hinges.  It is the pivotal point on which all your hopes and dreams and beliefs are built.

Have you met Jesus as your Lord and Savior at the cross?  If not, do so today!
