Bible Reading’s Importance

There are a lot of books that we can read.  Some will help us in our lifespan on earth.  They assist us in moving forward in our daily lives.  Those books give aided help in our time of need.

As Sir Walter Scott lay dying, he said to his friend and biographer, John Gibson Lockhart, “Read from the Book.”  “Which book?” asked Lockhart.  Scott replied, “There is but one.”  We need to learn that there is only One Book that really matters in life.  Especially, as we near the close of life on earth, all that really matters are the comforting words of the Holy Bible.

Jesus talks about our relation to the Scriptures in John 15:10.   It says, “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love, as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”  When we keep the Word of God, Jesus fills us with His love.”

Also, as we live according to the Bible, look at what Jesus continues to say in the next verse: “These things I have spoken unto you so that My joy will be in you, and that your joy may be made full.”  Notice, the reason for obeying the Book of books – “that your joy will be made full.”  As we read the Bible, our joy just keeps on coming.

Yes, the Bible is important to read.  It is the One Book to be read over and above all the other books  In fact, it is the only one that really matters.  The result of reading and obeying the Bible is to have an abundance of joy.  No other book can make that claim.

It is time we get serious about reading more of our Bibles than we have read before.  With the Bible being that important, let’s spend more time in our Bibles, starting today!
