Remember your first boyfriend or girlfriend? You were probably a young child when cupid‘s arrow struck your heart. You would call her your girlfriend or your boyfriend. To your parents you probably told them that one day you would marry that person.
As the days past, you had other boyfriends and girlfriends. The time came, though, when that certain someone stole your heart and you decided to marry him/her. A bridegroom of forty was chided because he had married a woman of twenty. He answered, “It’s not as bad as it seems. When she looks at me, she feels ten years older, and when I look at her I feel ten years younger. So really, we’re both thirty.” Ha! Ha! Love has a way of smoothing over the rough edges you face in marriage.
The Bible discusses marriage. It speaks of marriage in a most favorable light. “Marriage is to be held in honor among all” (Hebrews 13:4). It is a most honorable thing to be married. As you enter into marriage know that you have entered into something that the Scriptures calls a place of “honor.” It is a place of “honor” “among all.” Everyone is to look upon that union that you have with your mate as being a very significant relationship.
When you tie the knot with someone, you find favor with God and man. The act of getting married is a holy covenant between the couple and the Lord God. As such, you are to treasure one another above all other human beings. The marriage relationship is a love relationship between you and your mate that is deeper and more intimate than any other human relationship.
After tying the knot, you both are to encourage the other in their walk with Jesus. That is a true marriage!
