Soon after you become a Christian, you noticed that certain believers seemed to have more spiritual power than other believers. This power may be in the insights and ability to teach the Word of God. Or, it may be that they are the ones that when they pray, you just feel like you are in the throne room of God. Perhaps you have wondered what is it exactly that sets them apart from others?
To have spiritual power, like those spiritual giants in your life, it is possible for you. Let me warn you at the beginning however; that road is not an easy one. “There is a great difference between realizing, ‘On that cross He was crucified for me,’ and ‘on that cross I am crucified with Him.’ The one aspect brings us deliverance from sin’s condemnation, the other from sin’s power” (John Gregory Mantle). Yes, the first is required for salvation and entrance into the family of God. While the second is required to live above sin’s control of your life; it is here where you receive spiritual power.
In talking about the wisdom of this world, God’s Word asks where is the ultimate wisdom? It is answered by stating: “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18). The cross is where Jesus suffered and eventually died. The meaning of His death means absolutely nothing to unbelievers, but to the Christian it means everything. On that cross Jesus died for our sins. On that cross He gives believers the ability to live a spiritual life above human standards. When it states “to us being saved,” this verse means as you die daily to your desires to do God’s will in your life, it is accomplished by the cross.
So, how do you gain spiritual power? By dying on the cross, or daily living biblically not according to the world. Do so today!
