Life is full of episodes where you have to decide what you should do. You ponder deeply over the matter at hand. You put your mind into high gear and leave it there for many hours of thought. You seek the counsel of Godly people. You give them the specifics at hand and listen intently to the words they share.
David Russell shares some wise words concerning making a decision: “The hardest thing in life to learn is which bridges to cross and which ones to burn.” Life brings many events into our lives where a decision must be made. That decision can, and often does, change the course of the rest of our lives. Should we go into that direction? Or should we burn that bridge so that there is no turning back?
The Word of God offers great insight into how you should live your earthly life. It offers a road map on how to get the most out of this life, and, also, how to get to heaven. In speaking about this earthly wisdom, the Bible is not silent in helping you make decisions. One such verse is in Proverbs 16, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord” (v. 33). In OT days the Bible was not written so that the common man could read and study it. In those days, whenever a decision needed to be made, a person would cast lots. The casting of the lot is the human intervention, but the answer came from God. God caused the lot to give His direction.
I know this is all well and good, but you ask, “what should I do?” The answer you desire is one that comes from the Lord God. To get His answer, you need to turn to the Bible for direction, and possibly get the exact answer you desire. After that, pray that the Lord will lead you into the steps you should take. To sum it up, the answer in decision making is: seek and pray. It is as simple as that!
