When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are thrilled and want to learn so much about the Lord. You are fired up and cannot get enough Bible learning. Then, along the way, temptations occur. You begin to drift away from that commitment you made. Before long the joy and zest for serving Christ becomes a shadow in your past.
No matter where you are in your relationship to the Lord God, right now you may want God to use you more in His kingdom work. Robert Murray McCheyne gives you the answer to your quest: “A holy man is a mighty weapon in the hands of God.” You think of the holy prophets of the Old Testament and realize that they were used mightily by God. You think that they were special men used of God, and that you are not in the same category as they were.
Scripture talks about all believers needing to be holy before God. “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior, because it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:14-16). God commands you to be holy. It starts with you forsaking the present lusts in your life. Stop it! Stop it, now! You have allowed those temptations to control you long enough. It is time to get rid of them. Next, you are to live a holy life. The above passage quotes the Old Testament – “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” Holiness is your goal. Can you obtain it 100%? No. God knows you are not capable of 100% perfection, but that is to be your goal.
To be used mightily by God, means that you are to forsake present sinful habits, and live as holy of a life as you possibly can. That is how you will be a mighty warrior for God!
