Avoiding The Nitpicker Attitude

You may be one of those who look for something to complain about.  No matter how good something may sound, you look for something negative to say about it.  With you, there is no such thing a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  And the philosophy that every dark cloud has a silver lining, is foreign to you.  In your eyes, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

No matter where you go, you look at life through dark glasses.  Instead of looking for something good and positive in life, you find something negative to say about it.  In the past, newspapers were a popular source of information.  A local newspaper had a small boxed-off section with these sarcastic comments from an irritated editor, “If you find errors in this publication, please consider that they are there for a purpose.  We publish something for everyone, and some people are always looking for mistakes.”  Ha!  Ha!  That is down right funny.  The problem, though, is that the above statement describes so many people.  Some just look for anything they can find to complain about.

That brings up a good question.  What attitude should you, as a Christian, have in your daily activities?  Scripture is very clear in this area: “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but for the interests of others.  Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 2:3-5).  Stop!  Go back and read those verses, except this time slowly and let them sink it.

You are to be a person who exhibits the attitude of Jesus Christ, explained in Philippians, above.  There is no room in the Christian church or personal life of the believer, to be a nitpicker.  Change that attitude today!
