Home, Sweet Home

You can think of a place you call home.  That place may or may not be the epitome of love and care.  A good thing to know, though, is that no matter where your place of lodging, there is love, concern, affirmation, and acceptance in the church – your Christian home.  As you come for spiritual food and refreshment from the Scriptures, you also enjoy the fellowship of other believers.

The place you put your hat at the end of the day, has its ups and downs.  A newspaper in London had a contest for the best definition of home.  The winning definition was, “home is where you are treated the best and complain the most.”  Wow!  Those words are bittersweet to your ears.  No doubt about it.  You complain more in your home, than you ever would outside the home.  It is ironic, that during those negative complaining times, you are surrounded by those that love you the most.

You sometimes wonder why some homes seem to be full of joy, love, and happiness more than other homes.  Why do some homes feel so comfy, while other feel more like a vacuum?  King Solomon wrote Psalm 127, and in it he gives some insight worth considering: “Unless the Lord builds the house; they labor in vain who build it” (verse 1).  The solution is that you have to let the Lord build the house.

You accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  That is all well and good.  Do you keep spiritual affairs at church, or do allow Jesus to rule your home?  Solomon is saying that Jesus must be front and center in your home.

There is such a thing as you having a home, sweet home.  It will not come automatically, because you are a Christian.  Home, sweet home will not happen “unless the Lord builds the house.”  Take a step back and put Jesus at the center of all your home decisions.  There is no place like home, sweet home!
