The place you work has some goals they establish at the beginning of the year to be completed by the end of the year. If you are a student, you know what classes you must take each semester to one day graduate. Keeping those milestones, that need to be accomplished, in view helps you reach the desired results.
Hudson Taylor was a missionary of the last century that God greatly used to spread the Gospel. In setting goals and accomplishing great things for God, he said, “If it is true in anything, it is especially true of divine things, that what costs little is worth little.” You get out of something, whatever you put into it. So, there is a great need to make plans. To accomplish great things for God, you have to make specific plans.
Jesus knew that kingdom work required strategic planning. In discussing the great need of discipleship, and indirectly Christian ministry, He says, “For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?” (Luke 14:28). Jesus is saying that you have to plan. You must strategize what is needed to meet your desired goal.
You must have spiritual goal setting. Too often you do not accomplish what you set out to do, because you have not taken into consideration how to get there from where you started. Also, you look for the path of least resistance. You try to do the very minimum you can do.
Do not try to do the very least amount of work you can do. Remember, that it is the Lord Almighty whom you serve. He deserves the best. Think through all that is needed as you serve Him. Now may be the right time for you to stop, take a minute or two, and establish some spiritual goals for your life. As Taylor said, ‘what costs little is worth little.”
