You may think that if you were to have an abundance of 24 karat gold nuggets, that you would be truly rich. Material wealth is needed, but learning how to live your life successfully is much more important. The news is filled with people who win the lottery worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and in just a few years are completely broke. Thus, living successfully is much more than just having a lot of money.
You may think that hearing about how to be successful in life is what you need. Like hearing how to invest your savings. How to be successful in your job. How to have a happy marriage. And so many more successful insights, that once you know them, then you will live well. Knowing successful truths is important, but to live successfully requires more than that. Just look at some homes where truth was on display, but one child is successful, while the other is not. What does it take for you to be successful?
In an article in Bits & Pieces there is a quote that sheds some light on being successful – “It takes a great person to give sound advice tactfully, but it takes a greater person to accept it graciously.” You are successful, not in the amount of wise words you hear, but in the wise words that you apply to your life. It is the application of wise words to your life that allows you to live successfully.
Jesus talks about living wisely in the parable of the seeds and the ground. If you want a bumper crop in your life, listen to Jesus’ words: “And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold” (Mark 4:20). Notice, “the good soil” is not the ones who just hear. “The good soil” is those who “hear the word and accept it.” This means they put “the word” into practice in their lives.
Do you want nuggets of gold that will last an eternity? Then take the Scriptures and live them daily. Then you will be wealthy, indeed!
