In your life you have had numerous occasions where someone made a promise to you but did not follow through. It makes you lose faith in that person. The next time that person promises to do something for you, it makes you not so trustworthy.
Thankfully, when God makes promises, He always keeps them. Some Christian scholars say there are 8,810 promises listed in the Bible. Most of those promises apply to you, the Christian, today. Know for a fact, when God makes a promise, you can always count on Him to follow through on it. J. Hudson Taylor started a bank account for the China Inland Mission in Brighton, England. On the application where he was asked to designate his assets, he wrote, “Ten pounds and the promises of God.” Now, that is placing your faith where it should be. Yes, know for sure that if God promised it, then it will happen.
What are the promises of God given to you to accomplish? The answer is given in 2 Peter 1:4, “For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.” You are not given the promises of God to gain wealth, popularity, a better job, or any other worldly item. As the verse says, you are given the promises of God so “you may become partakers of the divine nature.” God’s promises are to make you more like Himself.
As the hymn says, “Standing on the promise of Christ my Savior.” You are standing on the promises of God. All you have to do is appropriate those promises. God gave them for you to claim.
Look in the Holy Bible for a promise you need, and claim it in your prayer life. Look! God’s answer is right there!
