That Dark Cloud

Dark clouds are a part of life.  You like the sunny, warm days, but those dark, dreary days occur also.  That dark cloud in your life may be a change in a career;  or the loss of a loved one;  or having to move across the country because of work,  or a number of other disappointing events in your life.

One dark cloud, that you may find eating away at the zest in your life, could be the reality of death.  Even though you know it will one day come, the thought of its arrival makes you shudder.  It does not matter if you are young or old, the thought of death can be unsettling.  “Death is the golden chariot that ushers us into the presence of God” (Tertullian).  Whew!  That gives you a sigh of relief.  As you think of death, just remember that it is the vehicle that transports you from an earthly existence into a heaven bliss.

Your acceptance of Jesus as your Lord and Savior makes all the difference in the world in your view of death.  As a child of God, when you die, you are immediately ushered into heaven.  Jesus gives you comforting words about this in John 5:24, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”  The “life” that is talked about here is a utopia life in heaven.

Yes, that dark cloud of death is inevitable, but being a child of the King makes all the difference in the world.  As you think about death, just focus your mind on the fact that it is nothing but a transition from earthly dwelling to heavenly dwelling, from finite to eternal, and from pain and suffering to love and joy.

No doubt about it, there is a dark cloud looming around you.  The good news is that it brings nothing to fear.
