An Unbeliever’s Best Witness

Unbelievers know very little or no Scripture.  Besides, they do not possess the Holy Spirit to teach them what the Word of God means.  They are left to their own reasoning, which is often based on the world in which they live.

You play a key role in some unbeliever’s life.  Like it or not, the way you handle trials, what you say, and how you act, all speak volumes to the unbeliever about what Christianity is all about.  An unknown person said this: “You are the best Christian someone knows.”  Ouch!  Talk about convicting; that is convicting!  The way you walk your daily life is the Bible that other people see.

Jesus knew too well that the world would be looking at Christians to determine how real their spiritual experience actually was.  And, also, how real of a spiritual experience you have made.  To show a lost world what your salvation is all about, Jesus said; “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).  Your job is to “shine.”  That may mean appropriate words to lead an unbeliever into the kingdom, but it includes just letting unbelievers see how you handle the ups and downs of life.  Notice, that when you “shine,” the result is not that others will say what a great Christian you are.  The result of letting “your light shine” is that they will “glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  Your testimony will cause others to glorify God.

It is a sobering thought, that you may just be the best Bible that someone will see.  There is no better reason, than for you to be the best witness you can be.  How can you be the best witness?  By obeying what Jesus told you to do in that Sermon on the Mount verse – “by letting your light shine before men.”  That simple command is an unbeliever’s best witness!
