The Holy Bible has much to say about you being prosperous. In some Bible verses it talks about believers being rich. So, when you look at many preachers on television, they preach how God wants you to be materially prosperous with the world’s goods. Material wealth, they say, is directly proportional to your spirituality.
Nothing could be further from the truth! You get wealth, alright, but that wealth is not necessarily material wealth. The wealth God bestows is a deeper walk with the Lord God Almighty. And that is the most precious wealth you can obtain.
How do you get God’s wealth? By fasting? By solitude? By prayer? How exactly do you get those blessings of God? “Mr. [D. L.] Moody used to say, ‘in our prayers we talk to God, in our Bible study, God talks to us, and we had better let God do most of the talking.’ We certainly ought to spend more time every day listening to what God has to say to us in His Word than we require Him to spend in listening to what we have to say to Him in our prayers” (R. A. Torrey). That is some great advice to you if you want God’s blessing on your life.
Psalm 1 states what you should do if you want to be “blessed” or “happy.” In verse 2 it gives the kernel of truth that you need: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law He meditates day and night.” The first requirement is that you “delight in the law of the Lord.” You are to love the Holy Scriptures! If this is not true of your life, then commit it to prayer for God to give you a joy for His Word. Second, you are to “meditate day and night” on it. Every waking minute, as much as possible, you meditate on God’s Word.
Well, there you have it. That is the road to true prosperity!
