You are well aware of being told by preachers and other Christians, that you are not to be a silent witness. There is a time when words to share the plan of salvation are required, in fact, when they are mandatory. As the Holy Spirit leads, you open your mouth and the Lord uses those words to bring another person into the kingdom. So, yes, the Holy Spirit will speak in and through you to win a soul into His kingdom.
Realizing that specific times in your life you will need to heed the leading of the Holy Spirit to share the work of Jesus Christ for salvation are of the utmost importance. What about the rest of your life? What about the time between those divinely appointed events to verbally share Jesus? D. L. Moody was an evangelist of the last century who God greatly used to evangelize the USA. His words give you insight to what you are to do in between witnessing opportunities: “A holy life will produce the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns; they only shine.” That is a very profound statement. When you live a holy life before the world, your mere attitude and action will leave a profound impact on those you meet. There is no need to go around sounding like a holier than thou type of attitude. Just live the life before the unbelieving world. In short, just shine.
Hannah, Samuel’s mother, was so elated at the birth of her son that she wrote a ballad or hymn of beautiful thanks to God for answering her prayer. In that hymn she exclaims, “There is no one holy like the Lord, indeed there is no one besides You, nor is there any rock like our God” (1 Samuel 2:2). She says that God’s holiness sets Him apart from all others; your holiness set you apart from those around you, as well.
To come full circle, there are times when you need to be a silent witness. No spoken words may just be the most powerful presence you can have.
