Your great desire is to be pleasing to God. You go to church, read daily devotions, but still you are not sure that your life measures up to God’s standards. You are not sure, either, what exactly God does require of you.
To be well-pleasing to the Lord, means that you must live a holy life. I can hear you now, “How can I live a holy life?” You, also, ask if it is really necessary. Robert Murray McCheyne has this to say about holiness: “A holy man is a mighty weapon in the hands of God.” Notice, he says “a holy man” not a perfect man. You know that you are far from being perfect, but you need to realize that you can be holy without being perfect. Someone or something that is holy is one that has been set apart for a special spiritual purpose. Thus, when you dedicate yourself to be used daily for God, you become holy.
Romans 12:1 sheds some light on the requirement of being holy, “Therefore, I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” “By the mercies of God” is an urgent, compassionate plea for you to live according to the verse. The plea is that you “present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice.” Thus, you are to live every day of your life, not according to your own wants and desires, but you are to live daily in such a way that you are pleasing to the Lord God. As you live pleasing to Christ, you live a holy life.
It is time you live your life to please God Almighty and not your desires or the pleasures of the world around you. Yes, it is time to live a life that is rare in this world; live a holy life. Your living a holy life has tremendous power. The power is not of your own doing but is the power you possess as a holy person in the hands of God. Like all rare things, you being a rare holy person has tremendous value!
