You are faced with many situations in your life where you have to decide between two actions. One action is usually a better decision that the other one. No matter what decision you make, you let the other(s) know that you will accomplish what you stated by saying, “I give you my word.” That statement carries with it your conviction that you will do what you said you would do.
F. B. Meyer was a prolific writer and pastor several decades ago. He signed many of his letters, “Yours to count on.” Meyer is stating that if you called upon him for help, then you would know that it would be done. Your request would be carried out.
What about you? Do you tell people empty promises? Can you be counted on to do what you say you will do? Are you reliable to fulfill what you tell others what you will do?
The Holy Bible is full of accounts where someone promised to do something, then God blessed them for accomplishing what they said they would do. This principle is spelled out clearly in Psalm 31:23, “O love the Lord, all you His godly ones! The Lord preserves the faithful and fully recompenses the proud doer.” Look at that verse to see how God deals with those who say they will do something and do it. “The Lord preserves the faithful.” Yes, when you are the one who is “faithful,” then the Lord God will “preserve” you.
When you tell others that you give them your word, make sure you follow through and do what you said you would do. By doing this, God says He will “preserve” you. This means that God will bless you in all your ways. Agree with F. B. Meyer and let other people know that you are the person who is to them, “Yours to count on.” That is what is meant by you giving your word.
