If you are in the corporate business world, you fully understand the meaning of this title. If not, then let me explain it to you; it means that your daily demands far, far exceed your ability to complete them before quitting time. In other words, your plate is full and running over.
How are you to handle life under such conditions? You may turn to time management books. You might read books on how to be a more effective leader or employee. If books do not excite you, then you may look at those topics on the web or on YouTube. Your premise is that to do more is dependent upon more efficiently doing your daily tasks. This is the view of the world.
Since you became a Christian, the way to complete more items in a day requires that you think differently than the world thinks. Martin Luther hits the nail on the head when he says, “I have so much to do today that I must set apart more time than usual for prayer.” Prayer is talking directly to Almighty God. He created the world and its universe with only a word. Thus, you can accomplish the things within a day that need to be done, by allowing the Lord to work through you; this is done by prayer.
God knows you need help to accomplish your daily duties. He also gives you the remedy to be able to do all that you need to do daily. This remedy is given in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Notice, the sequence: “Be anxious for nothing” and “in everything by prayer.” God tells you to pray about “everything.” Your struggle is that you think you can handle some little things and only ask God to handle the big things. God tells you to pray about “everything,” and everything means just what it says: everything.
Are you up to your eyes in alligators? Take a step back, close your eyes, and pray. Let me warn you. This is easier said than done. Doing the hard thing is often times the best thing. Pray!
