Rewards for Little Things

You work hard for that big promotion and make some huge sacrifices to get it.  The reward is huge, so you are willing to make some huge decisions and do without a lot of things to get your due reward.  That is what you expect.  You expect that life rewards you for the huge sacrifices that you make.

When you think of getting some big dividend, you associate that with it costing you a lot.  You have the philosophy that if it costs you nothing, then it is worth nothing.  Simply stated, to gain anything of importance in life, requires you to work extremely hard.

To challenge that way of thinking, one unknown author has this to say, “A little thing is a little thing; but faithfulness in little things is a very big thing.”  So often in life when you just stay at the task of doing the mundane tasks, you get a bumper crop reward.  The key is just to keep on doing those small tasks; you just need to be faithful.

Jesus talked about being faithful in small tasks, when He told those following Him the parable of the talents.  When the master returned unexpectedly to see what his slaves did with the money he entrusted to them, he said the same thing to two slaves.  He tells them, “His master said to him, ‘Well done good and faithful slave.  You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master’” (Matt. 25:21, 23).  Jesus was stressing the point that his disciples should be faithful to do the small things; God will reward their faithfulness.

Do not think that you have such a small part in the kingdom of God, that you are unimportant.  God is telling you that the size of your work/ministry is not near as important as your faithfulness.  Yes, the Lord does reward those who are faithful to do the little things!
