You became a Christian a good time ago but have not grown much in your walk with Christ. Or, you are a brand-new Christian. In either case you feel like you do not have a handle on this Christian discipline of prayer. You hear others pray in church and envy their prayer life. They seem to have it all together. As they pray you sense the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life. On the other hand, when you pray, you feel lightyears away from God. Sound familiar?
The fruitfulness of your prayers is not dependent upon your feelings. You are a child of God, and He yearns to have fellowship with you through your prayer life. There is no other activity on earth so precious as a personal talk with the living Christ. This is done through prayer. You may feel uncertain in your ability to pray. But know that Satan hates it when you pray to Christ. He will do anything and everything within his power to keep you from praying. “Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint upon his knees” (William Cowper). There is power in prayer. And yes, there is power in your prayers. When it comes to prayer, all saints have access to heaven.
Though your faith may be weak, your prayers are powerful. Heaven is only a prayer away. You can pray anywhere and anytime you want to. Jesus curses a fig tree and the disciples are amazed that the fig tree dies. Jesus uses this opportunity to teach His disciples, and us, about prayer. “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive” (Matthew 21:22; NASV). Just ask.
