Getting Ready For Easter

Easter is a fun time.  It is especially fun if you have a small child in your life.  There is the coloring of Easter eggs.  The hiding of those Easter eggs and the joy of watching that small child find those eggs.  For some, the gentle reminder to the child that they are getting hot or cold in relation to finding Easter eggs is a joyful time.  Many families get together for a meal on Easter, too.  All of this is something to look forward to at Easter.

As much fun as all can have at Easter, there is a much deeper meaning that needs to gain your full attention.  No matter your age that meaning should hold center stage on Easter Sunday.  When that great Christian and scientist Sir Michael Faraday was dying, some journalists questioned him as to his speculations for a life after death.  “Speculations!” said he, “I know nothing about speculations.  I’m resting on certainties.  ‘I know that my Redeemer liveth,’ and because He lives, I shall live also.”  There is someone who knows the real reason you celebrate Easter.

Jesus explained the meaning of Easter before the crucifixion and resurrection even happened.  Christ was talking to Martha about Martha’s brother, Lazarus.  Lazarus was dead and Jesus arrives on the scene.  In Martha’s eyes Jesus is too late.  If only Jesus had come before Lazarus died, Jesus could have healed him.  Now it is too late.  To this Christ responds: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies (John 11:25; NASV).  In other words, there is life after this earthly existence.

Get ready for Easter to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.  If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus do that right now.  You may be in His presence soon!
