Need A Little More

One thing is common with every job you have.  You work hard and at the end of the month there always seems to be a need for more money.  No matter how hard you try the bank account just does not have enough money in it when the bills come due.

It is not as though you spend money foolishly.  At least from your point of view you buy only things that you need.  All-in-all money just flies away with the wind.  You can relate to the story of a rabbi.  A rabbi was awakened one night by a sound in the night and asked, “Who’s there?”  A voice from the shadows replied, “A burglar.”  “What are you looking for?” asked the rabbi, and the voice replied, “Money.”  The rabbi said, “Wait, I’ll get up and help you!”  Ha!  Ha!  It is funny but the moral of the story is sad because it so true of your life.

The Bible teaches that you are wise to use your money in a way that glorifies Christ.  Nowhere in the Scriptures does it teach that having a lot of money is a sin.  And nowhere does it teach that having a little money is a sin.  The amount of money, or lack of it, is not the problem.

What the Word of God teaches that is a sin is the love of money.  “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have” (Hebrews 13:5; NASV).  The Bible does say that you are to be “free from the love of money.”  This means that you are not always looking for more and more money.  To make the matter clear to believers the verse goes on to say “being content with what you have.”  That results in Christian joy in your life.

To keep your mind from the thought of always needing a little more, focus on what you already have.  Finding that difficult to do?  Go to Christ in prayer about it!
