Being Like Christ

You read your Bible, because it tells you how to get to heaven.  Its theme is repeated again and again in Scripture.  Christ wants you to be saved from your sins.  He does not want you to go to hell.  Sadly, too many pastors focus all their attention on that great Bible truth.   There is nothing wrong about telling others how to get to heaven but there is so much more truth that needs to be told in those pages of Scripture.

Accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior is the beginning point of your spiritual life.  At that point the Holy Spirit comes into your life and you are spiritually alive.  You move from spiritual darkness to spiritual life.

From that point you are to grow spiritually.  You are to become a mature Christian.  It is this maturity that is essential to be the best witness you can be.  As a mature Christian, unbelievers see a person different from themselves and seek to have what the Christian has.  A mother was telling her little boy what manner of person a Christian should be.  When the lesson was finished, the mother got a stab she never forgot, when her boy asked seriously, “Mother, have I ever seen a Christian?”  Ouch!  That mother realized her life did not reflect the life of Christ.

Jesus taught some very valuable lessons to us explaining how we should live our lives.  It that Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us the importance of living daily for Christ.  “Let your life shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16; NASV).  Plain and simple, put your Christian beliefs into daily living.

Being a Christian means growing in your relationship with Christ.  Be like Christ today and every day!
