True Happiness

You go from day-to-day with the hope that it will be a day full of glad tidings.  This is especially true as the Christmas Season draws near.  Everywhere you look people are going here and there, all seeking that perfect gift to give to someone special on Christmas Day.  When that special someone opens that gift, the giver of the gift hopes they will be thrilled in getting it.

You want so desperately to be happy today, and every day of your life.  Deep down inside there is that yearning to live happy every day.  Whenever you seek that happiness, it seems to fade away quickly.  “Happiness is like a butterfly.  The more you chase it, the more it will elude you.  But if you turn your attention to other things, it comes and softly sits on your shoulder” (Bits & Pieces).  The harder you pursue happiness the further away it seems to be.  It is as you forget about it and get involved in the lives of others, that happiness enters your life.

Jesus knew that all along.  He taught that happiness must be found in serving other people.  “. . . and remember the words of the Lord, ‘It is more blessed to give than receive’” (Acts 20:35; NASV).  Happiness occurs when you are on the receiving end, but you are the happiest when you give.  That means you must do things for other people.

You receive true happiness as you look for opportunities to make that other person smile and have a good day.  Here you are, at the beginning of the 2024 Christmas Season.  What a great time to spread a little happiness to those Christ puts in your path.  You never know the importance of such an act of kindness in their life.

The only way to have an abundance of happiness is to know Christ personally.  Do that right now!
