There is no doubt in your mind that Christmas is very near. As you drive around your neighborhood you see signs of Christmas all around you. As you go shopping you see the mass of people in every store you go into. If that were not enough, Christmas merchandise is in every store you enter.
Christmas may be a wonderful time for you and your family. It is a time of giving and receiving gifts and spending time with loved ones. But not everyone feels that way at Christmas. You may have to spend that day all alone. No family. No friends. Just yourself.
The important thing to remember in the Christmas Season is that it is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Savior of the world. And specifically, He is your Savior too. C. S. Lewis talks about why you should rejoice at the Christmas time of the year, when he wrote: “The Son of God became the Son of Man so that sons of men may become the sons of God.” Jesus is your Savior. He came upon this earth in a night that was like every other night.
Scripture records the birth of Christ, as Mary gave birth to God in the flesh. “And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7; NASV). Isn’t it ironic that the Savior of the world, being God in the flesh, was born in a stable. His lowly birth helps you to realize that the world, and all in it, is of a little value.
This Wednesday is Christmas Day. Celebrate the Savior’s birth. Set aside some time that day to read the story of Christ’s birth. Afterwards, let this Christmas bring with it the joy of serving Christ more completely in 2025. Rejoice! The Savior is born!
