Making Little Prayers Big

On a regular basis you offer up prayers to Jesus.  The bottom falls out of your life, so you pray.  You are having a bad day, so you pray.  You get some unsettling news, so you pray.  Your emotional life is a wreck, so you pray.  No matter what emotional or spiritual low occurs in your life, you turn to prayer.

You have a small outlook on your spiritual life.  Thus, you ask the Lord to meet those tasks in your life.  Otherwise, the large tasks that come your way, knock you off your feet.  Phillips Brooks has some much-needed council in regards to your prayer life: “Do not pray for easy lives.  Pray to be a stronger person.  Do not ask for tasks equal to your prayers, but pray for power equal to your tasks.”  So often, you pray for an easy life.  You do not want to get too involved.  You do not want to get too busy. So, you pray for an easy life.  What is needed is Christ’s power to accomplish the impossible in your life.

To be honest, prayer seems to come and go with whatever mood you are in.  When your life is going well, prayer is seldom uttered.  You are busy.  You have a lot to do.  There is just no time to pray.  Let the bottom fall out of your life, and watch those heavenly prayers increase.

Paul was busy planting churches.  Even in his busy schedule, he found time to pray for the churches he planted.  “Always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all” (Philippians 1:4; NASV).  He “always” offered prayer for those Christ put in His path.  What an encouragement for you to do likewise.

Turn those little prayers directed inward on small daily tasks into big prayers in behalf of others.  Knowing Christ personally makes all the difference!  Do that now!
