Growing Stronger

When you became a Christian, your supreme desire was to grow in your faith.  You realized that to accomplish this, you needed to know more about what the Bible teaches.  The fact is, you had a craving for biblical knowledge.  You just could not get enough Bible reading.

As time passed, that great desire for Bible reading just faded away.  You got busy.  You did not have enough time.  Yes, you were busy, but busy doing good things.  Making sure you attended church regularly.  You got involved in this church activity and that one.  Business replaced time in the Word of God.

            D. L. Moody was an evangelist of the last century.God greatly used the man to win many, many souls to Christ.  As he talked about reading the Bible, he said some wise words: “I never saw a useful Christian who was not a student of the Bible.”  That brings about a good question – how useful are you in your Christian life?  The answer lies in the amount of time you spend daily in the Bible.

Paul and Silas find themselves in a synagogue of the Jews in a particular city.  This city is unlike any other city in which they have ministered.  As they preached, those listening intensely took to heart what they heard.  “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11; NASV).  They heard a message.  They did not just accept that message.  They went home and studied their Bibles to see if what they heard agreed with the Bible.

You want to be a strong Christian?  The strategy is simple.  Keep daily time of reading and studying the Bible a priority.  Keep Christ first in your life!  Do so now!
