From Spirit To Flesh

Think for a few minutes about Jesus Christ and His heavenly existence before coming to earth. He was eternally in time past in existence with God the Father in the spiritual realm.  Perfect love.  Perfect joy.  Perfect peace.  In fact, perfect in every sense of the word.  Total harmony.

The triune God loves humanity so much that Jesus willingly left all that heaven had to offer to become a human baby in the flesh.  To grow up and become a man, and to suffer the rejection of the religious rulers, be crucified, and suffer death, all because of His love for you.

In discussing the birth of Jesus, the Devil despised that birth more than words can express.  Martin Luther, who often told a story to make a point, stressed the impact of God assuming flesh when he described a preacher reading from the first chapter of John’s gospel.  When he came to the words, “In the beginning was the Word,” the Devil stood motionless.  But when he read, “but the Word became flesh,” the Devil immediately fled.  The coming of Jesus as a baby in the flesh, changed all of history.

Yes, the Bible clearly states, “And the Word became flesh” (John 1;14; NASV).  That Word is none other than the Word of God.  The Scriptures.  The Bible.  The Book of books.  That Word took human form and dwelt upon earth.

Next Wednesday is Christmas Day.  It is the day you set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  As you open gifts and spend time with family and friends, remember Christ’s birth at your Christmas celebration.  Rejoice that Jesus left heaven in all its glory to come to earth.

Jesus came to earth to show you how to live and to die on a cross for your sins.  So, at Christmas celebrate Christ’s birth!  Rejoice!  Rejoice!  A Son has been given!
